Good morning everyone:
It is approaching 3:00 am Saturday morning and I am happy to report that despite some pretty bleak odds, Greg has shown tremendous strength and courage and survived the surgery to repair the aneurism that was found on Friday morning. He is showing a toughness that would have made Bobby, his grandfather, so proud.
He knew Friday morning when he pulled the drain line from his head what he was doing. That action required the docs to do an angiogram. If not for the angiogram we would likely never have been made aware of the rupture and the results could have been catastrophic. Someone up there told him to pull that drain.
Surgery lasted about 4 1/2 hours and the next couple of days will be critical. After we get over the hump and move forward the main concern will be vasospasms which could be difficult for him to go through, difficult for us to see, and could lead to some long term issues. If today is any indication, I know he will continue to battle these with great success as he has the benefit of the most amazing and supportive family and friends. Given his young age these will likely be a concern for several weeks. The medical team believes he will be here in the ICU for a month or so. That being said, it is one day time, embracing the small steps forward to his ultimate recovery from this nightmare. If anything good comes out of this it will be getting back to a happy, healthy life that has dodged him for at least the past few months.
Your support has been so important and we can't imagine getting through this without it.
Unfortunately, the story doesn't end here. Greg, Jill, and their beautiful two boys are going to need us all more than ever.
I know I'm babbling a bit but sleep deprivation is probable setting in.
Thank you all again for the calls, texts, emails, and most importantly your prayers. I will keep you posted on Greg's progress.
