Mike's Update - February 27th, 2013

Good morning:

There is nothing better than a good night sleep to renew your energy and spirit. Natalie and Sean had the misfortune of tolerating me in an exhausted state while grabbing  a bite to eat last night.  I promise you guys I will be more coherent today..

Greg continued to throw curve balls at the team yesterday but this staff is doing an amazing job.  It is so comforting to recognize how closely they are monitoring him and how equipped they are to adapt as the circumstances change.

CAT scans and angiograms were both done yesterday and at this point he is experiencing severe Vasolspasm.  This is anticipated and likely to continue for some time.  It would be very difficult for him to get through this stage without the benefit of sedation and being on the ventilator. They do moderate the sedation every couple of hours to do a neuro evaluation.   He really looks good though, especially being only five days post surgical. Jill says he still looks so handsome.....I concur.

Today Greg will have another angiogram to evaluate and medicate the spasms.  We just reduced his sedation (not me, the real doctors) and I am happy to report that with a good deal of coaxing we got a couple of toe wiggles and and squeezes. All really positive signs!!!

Keep all of the positive thoughts and stories about Greg coming.

Have a great day,
Mike

  1. Im thinking about greg and you all constantly. Thanks for the updates Mike, its really nice to hear his progress, even if I picture you in a nurses uniform writing them. Looking forward to Coutu bouncing back to his self real soon. Any projection on a timeline of getting out of icu? Best wishes and encouragement. -Tim

    1. Hey Tim,

Greg will probably be in the ICU for about a month and then either to a floor room or maybe rehab - its going to be a long road but we are all confident he'll bounce back quickly. He is a STRONG kid and even when sedated has all the doctors on their toes trying to wrestle him down. He is a fighter, and stubborn one at that, so we're hopeful once these vasolspasms end we'll start to see him coming back to himself with lightening speed. Thank you for all your good thoughts and well wishes... I know they are helping.

      XO
      ~ Jill
