Mike's Nightly Update
Hi All
Today was an uneventful day here at the Brigham. Greg had a pretty good day but as usual continued monitoring, scanning an testing wore him out. I cannot tell you how exceptional, compassionate and professional the staff has been. From the surgical team to the ICU team, it has been eye opening and comforting.
Today was a difficult day in in that Greg chose to frustrate us by failing to communicate much. With a few exceptions, kisses for Jill, calling his old man a Son of a bitch, and some squeezes of the hand for his Godmother, mom, and sister he decided to pretty much chill. I know that he felt the presence of his pal Leo here today and hopefully in the days ahead Leo can come see him and bring that smile to Greg's face. Jill, Donna, and I greatly appreciated Dr. Murphy coming by. We are so fortunate to have found him and his compassionate care as Greg's PCP is so overwhelming.
He did do a great job of drinking, pounding down a couple of Ensure and a frappe. I think he heard them talking about a feeding tube and decided to put an end to that option.
Tonight the staff decided to remove his arm restraints and put oversized mittens on that look like boxing gloves. After putting up a rambunctious fight he is getting used to them and realizing they allow for greater comfort.
The next few days may be challenging, as an increase in brain swelling is anticipated and the vasospasms are potentially going to continue and perhaps get worse. The team here does a great job of preparing all of us as to what to expect as the journey continues.
So much has happened in the last five days with so many unanticipated setbacks. I know that with everyone pulling for him, the next five days will be steps forward.
Thanks to everyone for your continued prayers, love and support.
Good night,
Mike
